It does not mean it will actually take you that many tries however, it could. If you had forgotten your password and were trying to guess it, and you guessed a different password each try, this is the maximum number of attempts until you guess it correctly. The maximum number of password possibilities for the values you entered is returned. Enter the values then click on Calculate. Do NOT consider spaces (although some systems allow them) we consider those based on the minimum number of characters required. If your password allows for keyboard entered characters, such as $, or the underscore character (as well as others), that adds 32 more characters to the possible pool on MOST keyboards. If the pool is alphanumeric, add 10 to the character pool each group is additive. If upper and lower case are different, the character pool is 52 instead of 26. If the password is only letters, the character pool is 26 (A-Z) upper or lower case accepted as the same. If the password is only numbers, the potential character pool is 10 (0-9). The default character pool is composed of numbers and letters. Most passwords are a minimum of 4 characters but our default is zero (0) meaning you don't have to actually have a password. The length is the potential of the field most are 8 characters but you may change as needed. This calculator is designed to provide the number of possible options for a password of up to X characters long, with a minimum of Y characters required, from a possible pool of Z characters. This calculator requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers.
